Backyard Drainage & Landscape Renovation Project

Project Overview

This project includes constructing a soil berm along the back left property line to help reduce surface water runoff, refreshing the backyard landscape with new trench edging and premium mulch, transplanting existing hostas into the new berm, installing weed barrier fabric and 1–2″ river rock in designated landscape areas (including beside the patio), and installing approximately 71 linear feet of brown aluminum landscape edging to create clean, professional borders throughout the landscape.

To address surface water concerns, our team constructed a soil berm along the back left property line. This raised landscape feature helps redirect surface runoff, minimizes water accumulation, and improves drainage throughout the backyard while blending naturally into the surrounding landscape.

The existing landscape was then refreshed with newly defined trench edging and a fresh layer of premium mulch. These improvements created crisp bed lines, enhanced the visual separation between lawn and planting areas, and provided a clean, finished look while helping retain soil moisture and suppress weed growth.

Existing hostas were carefully transplanted into the newly constructed berm, preserving healthy plants while incorporating them into the updated landscape design. This approach maximized the value of the existing landscape while creating a more cohesive planting arrangement.

To further reduce maintenance, professional-grade weed barrier fabric was installed in designated planting areas before applying 1–2 inch decorative river rock, including the landscape bed adjacent to the patio. The river rock provides excellent drainage, minimizes weed growth, and delivers a modern, long-lasting landscape finish.

The project was completed with the installation of approximately 71 linear feet of brown aluminum landscape edging, creating durable, clean borders that help contain mulch and stone while providing a sharp, professional appearance throughout the property.

The finished landscape combines practical drainage solutions with attractive landscape enhancements, resulting in a backyard that is easier to maintain, better protected from excess water, and visually appealing throughout every season.
